An acupuncture therapist in Fort Collins is accused of sexually assaulting clients during acupuncture sessions. Kent Nixon allegedly sexually assaulted several women during sessions in Fort Collins. Kristin Vogt, Sara Neubert, and two other women testified in the case against him and asked the judge for a stiffer penalty.
Earlier, Nixon reached a plea deal with the Larimer County District Attorney to plead guilty to nine counts of fake medical exams instead of sex crimes. However, perhaps based on the testimony of the alleged victims, the judge rejected the deal. Instead, the case will hopefully proceed to trial.
This case is one of many sexual assault cases across the country where acupuncturists are being accused of sexual assault. Earlier this month in Redwood City, California, acupuncturist Randall Neustaedter was found guilty on all counts of sexual assault and faces 24 years in prison for his crimes.
Acupuncture is a growing alternative medicine practice that has been around for thousands of years. In western societies, many individuals are turning towards eastern medicine to find relief for a variety of issues, such as inflammation, pain relief, and headaches. It is a safe and surprisingly effective treatment when performed by a licensed acupuncturist.
Unfortunately, some practitioners can take advantage of patients in their most vulnerable states. They may inappropriately touch or sexually assault patients without their consent and use the cover of “medicine” to get away with it.
This is unacceptable, and abusive acupuncturists and medical practitioners should be held accountable.
