A fatal collision involving a motorcycle and a tow truck, killed one person last Saturday evening.
According to the Aurora Police Department, the collision occurred in the intersection of East Mississippi Avenue and South Blackhawk Street, around 7:50 p.m. on the evening of November 6th.
At the time of this writing, investigators believe that an eastbound motorcycle traveling on Mississippi Avenue, was lane splitting as it headed towards Blackhawk Street. Lane splitting is when a motorcyclist is driving down the center of two lanes, between vehicles stopped at a red light.
The motorcycle was apparently traveling at a high rate of speed, and did not slow down when it reached the intersection with Blackhawk St., where a tow truck with the right of way was making a left hand turn, off of Blackhawk St. and onto Mississippi Ave.
The motorcycle crashed into the tow truck, sadly, resulting in fatal injuries for the rider, who passed away at the scene of the crash. The tow truck driver was uninjured.
Police do not believe at this time that drugs or alcohol played a factor in this crash. This is an ongoing investigation, and the police request that anyone with any information who has not already talked to a police officer, call 720.913.7867.
