Touch of Wellness Owner Faces Sexual Assault Allegation

Posted on July 06,2020 in Uncategorized

Commerce City massage studio, Touch of Wellness, was in the news recently due to the arrest in June of it's owner, David Allan Gray, on a sexual assault charge. In Colorado, sexual assault is a class four felony.

According to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office, 59-year-old Gray is charged with sexually assaulting a 28-year-old woman who came into his business on June 11th for a massage. Touch of Wellness is located at 13575 E. 104th Ave. in Commerce City.

Since the news initially broke about his arrest, there have been additional individuals who have stated that they too have been victimized by Gray. Comments made by Facebook users on a KDVR Facebook post about the story, allege that Gray may have either sexually assaulted other clients, or may have committed sexual impropriety towards other clients, which would have happened if he had made inappropriate comments during a massage.

This case has been investigated by the Commerce City-Brighton Sexual Assault Task Force, and Gray is set to appear in Division 2 of Adams County Court on July 28 for a preliminary hearing.

The Commerce City Police Department is asking that anyone with any information about this case, or other possible instances of assault or impropriety on the part of Gray, call their tip line at 303-289-3626.

Sexually Assaulted by a Massage Therapist

Sexual assault allegations made in recent years against massage therapy spas such as Massage Envy, brought to light an issue that many in this country had not previously known about. According to an investigation into the allegations made against the large spa chain conducted by BuzzFeed News, there were more than 180 people who say the were assaulted at Massage Envy locations around the country.

Because of the nature of massage, people may be somewhat confused about what is appropriate and what is inappropriate during a massage session. It's important to note that there are boundaries and ethical behaviors that are associated with these services, and it's the job of massage practitioners to familiarize themselves with those standards, to maintain a professional demeanor at all times, and to respect the personal boundaries of every client.

During a massage, if something doesn't feel right or if you're made to feel uncomfortable at some point, if you haven't been given the opportunity to give consent to bodywork that may be considered intimate by most people, or if the behavior of your therapist, either physical or verbal, strikes you as inappropriate, it's important to realize that you have options and rights.

When someone goes to a massage therapy spa for treatment, they are necessarily putting themselves in a vulnerable state. When a therapist takes advantage of that vulnerability, they need to face justice and pay the price for their inappropriate, and possibly criminal actions.

When a business fails to protect its clients from known predators, or allows known assailants to continue to be employed, they need to pay for their actions as well, both in order to achieve justice for those who have been wronged, but also to help ensure the behavior won't negatively effect the lives of anyone else in the future.
